Itinerary

Arrival Day: Touching Down in the Wild

Your journey begins with a 75-minute flight north from Thunder Bay, Ontario—passing over endless lakes, rivers, and forest before landing on Miminiska’s private grass airstrip. Our lodge team will greet you on arrival and transfer your luggage to your private cabin, where a hearty breakfast and warm welcome await.

Spend the rest of the day settling in. Take a walk along the shoreline, explore the main lodge, or simply relax with a drink on your deck. Swim, stretch, or just breathe. This is your time. In the evening, gather for cocktails, a family-style dinner, and, if the skies cooperate, a bonfire under the stars and the glow of the northern lights.

Days at Miminiska: Your Time, Your Rhythm

There’s no set schedule here—only possibilities. Start your morning with coffee delivered to your cabin and a made-to-order breakfast in the dining room. Then fill your days however you choose.

Paddle calm waters by canoe or kayak. Hike through forest trails to quiet lookouts. Join a wildlife safari to spot moose, eagles, or black bears. Let us pack you a picnic or prepare a shorelunch over an open fire on a nearby island. Learn to fish with a guide—or not at all. How to Get Here

Your adventure begins in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada—easily accessible by major airlines including Air Canada, WestJet, Porter, and Flair.

If you decide to take a road trip, the drive from Toronto to Thunder Bay via Sault Ste. Marie follows Highway 400 North to Highway 69, then merges into Highway 17 (Trans-Canada Highway) as it heads west along the rugged and scenic northern shore of Lake Superior. We recommend arriving the day before your departure to Miminiska. What's included in the stay?

Everything. Private lakeside cabin, all meals, guided adventures, daily housekeeping, use of gear, wine and cocktails, and access to the sauna. We’ll even deliver coffee to your cabin porch in the morning.

Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Absolutely. Just let us know in advance and our kitchen team will create meals tailored to your needs

Do I need to be “outdoorsy” to enjoy this?

Not at all. Whether you’re into paddling, reading on the dock, or relaxing in the sauna, this experience is about finding your own pace in nature — with full comfort and support.

What should I pack?

We’ll send you a packing guide when you book. You won’t need much — casual layers, sturdy shoes, and your favorite book. We’ve got the gear covered.

Do I have to fish?

Not at all! Fishing is available (and incredible), but many guests come for the paddling, hiking, shore lunches, wildlife, and the off-grid luxury.

Is there cell service or wifi at the lodge?

No cell towers, no cell service! But there is Wi-Fi in the main lodge for essential communication. We encourage unplugging — but you’ll always be able to stay connected with our team and loved ones if needed.

Is this a good alternative to more traditional resorts or crowded destinations?

Yes — if you’re looking for space, peace, and something truly unique. Miminiska offers privacy, nature, and personalized service far from the usual tourist routes.

Do I need travel insurance?

We strongly recommend it, especially for international travelers. This ensures peace of mind for any unexpected delays or interruptions — though we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.
